"Forefront, Gonococci, and Conflict" (最前線、淋菌、葛藤 Saizensen, Rinkin, Kattō?) is the 4th episode of the Cells at Work! CODE BLACK! anime adaption.
Plot[]
The white blood cells warn AA2153 and his colleagues about the danger heading their way, Neisseria Gonorrhoeae. The other cells are worried about the bacteria, especially the members of the Platelet Division. AA2153 tries to comfort the Platelets, who are terrified. Their leader thanks the rookie red blood cell for his efforts in consoling her colleagues.
The white blood cells fight the Gonococci who has entered the body through sexual intercourse. To make matters worse, this kind of bacteria is known for their unbelievable proliferation rate. The bacteria invade several areas, including the urethra, and are closing in on the epididymis where the sperm reside.
While the white blood cells are vital, they can't match the bacteria's unbelievable numbers and are forced to retreat and regroup in a lymph node. The white blood cells' captain tells them that Gonorrhea can't heal naturally. To top it all of AC1677 and the other red blood cells accuse the white blood cells of not doing their jobs.
Elsewhere, AA2153 and AC1677 must deliver oxygen to the areas infected by the Gonococci, especially the urethra. There, they stumble to an alley filled with dead white blood cells. A Gonococci catches them by surprise. Luckily, a white blood cell saves them from certain death. However, she collapses from exhaustion. A Macrophage is there to catch her.
Despite the danger, the red blood cells continue with their delivery when they run into a group of white blood cells who are captured by the Gonococci. The Gonococci are about to kill their captives when AA2153 distracts them with a speech about how he appreciates the white blood cells.
It serves as a distraction because just then, Penicillin is administered orally. As a result, the antibiotic weakens the Gonococci's cell walls and allows them to be defeated. The fight has caused countless casualties, especially on the Neutrophil's side, who are disposed of as pus in the urine.
At the end of the battle, T-Cell reads a Military Report and puts the blame on white blood cells as they are responsible for the body's current weak state.
